Today I was playing CS: Source and it crashed (which has happened once before randomly, like 5 times because of a firewall which lead to a hard disk error). Naturally, I had to manually shut off the computer then turn it back on. Turning it on OMFG BLUE SCREEN AHHHHHH!! It said Windows had a problem loading, because some Win32 config file was corrupted (I'm pretty sure its a HD error). Trying safe mode wouldn't work. Since this has happened before (though it may have been a different error), I tried inserting the XP disc to try running Repair> CHKDSK, but sadly, to run the Repair thing, I needed to type in an Administrative password, which of course, is NOT the password I use to log on. Last time this happened, I neednt type in a password.

Mind you I have a HEL80 with fingerprint scanner, and I use that to log in, though I can also type in my password, WHICH SHOULD WORK. hmm...

So what should I do? I really have no clue what to do..

If there is administrator password, it would have been created before you setup the biometrics. Depending on how windows was initially setup, you would have set the password up during that process.

If your BIOS has a hard drive self-test, you could run that. Otherwise, make a boot disk and boot into DOS mode and run chkdsk. OR, you could use a Linux Live CD, like Knoppix, to replace the damaged file or test your hardware.

But I have done this whole thing before, because CS: Source has crashed a lot. before, i was able to simply stick the Win XP disc in, go to recovery console, and do the chk disk. Now its asking "what installation would you like to run from?" which 1 is the only asnwer, and then it says "type administrator password:". I didn't have to do this before, which was a few days ago. No password or installation or anything. And I have no clue what the password is, I've tried everything.

    have you tried valve help/boards/forums?

i'd say you're better off going there than looking on a notebook forum.

i understand, but i'm saying that it's possible someone has experienced the same problem and already found a remedy.

But you don't. Ok here's what has happened. When I first installed CS:S, it crashed 4 times within a day because of my firewall settings (i deleted the firewall), leading to manual shutdowns, leading to a hard disk error that left my computer unable to load windows. I created a topic about this in the Compal forums and got help from someone who told me to stick in my XP installation disk to access the repair function then do a CHKDSK. I did that, and BAM it worked. I was able to load windows without a BlueScreen flickering causing my comp to restart.

Now CS:S crashed again, I'm guessing it might be a sound card problem because it was when I adjusted the volume. I was forced to turn the computer off and on again manually. Now I know it isn't loading now because a certain WIN32/Config file is corrupted. It is again a windows loading problem. But for some reason, when I stick the WinXP installation disc and try to repair it, it first asks for an administrative password. I have tried the password I used to login, my username, computer name, EVERYTHING, but none of them are the password.

This isn't a CS problem. There isn't a remedy. I can't get onto my computer because it can't load windows now. So I'm asking if there is anything that might get my computer well enough to perform a chkdsk that could fix this error. Is there a way to reinstall XP or anything I can do?

    no, you don't understand.

i realize this is an error you're experiencing during bootup. what i am saying is that IF, AS YOU SAY, it's something that happened from/by/because of/due to valve's software, that MAYBE SOMEONE ON VALVE'S FORUMS HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING SO IF YOU GO THERE AND DO A SEARCH FOR SOMETHING LIKE "BOOT ERROR", there will already be a thread on a solution.

i believe i understand the problem quite clearly. i was simply trying to help you target your hunt for a solution.
