Speaking of Dropbox, a good alternative thats getting abuzz right now is Copy.com. Apparently it's functions are the same as Dropbox's but it is a bit more secure because files are encrypted on your end before they are uploaded.
Copy is a major game-changer in the cloud storage arena, providing benefits to individuals and companies such as:
Multiple device compatibility –
Copy works across Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux computers and offers mobile device support for Apple iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad) and Android, with Windows Mobile coming soon.
Easy file sharing without limits –
Copy allows users to upload and share files of any size, including 1080p videos and raw photographs without size limitations often found in email attachments. These shared files and folders can be sent to anyone either publicly or privately and accessed from any location or device.
More security –
Copy provides a secure alternative to some other cloud storage services. Included data verification inspects data before Copy accepts it into the user’s cloud storage. File-level ownership is verified prior to transferring anything to other devices. Copy also allows users to share files privately using Copy's built-in identify verification.
Copy lets you undelete any file right from the desktop app. And on the web, you can even see different file versions side-by-side. Try that with Dropbox.
Copy believes that you should be able to organize your files however you want. That's why Copy lets you sync any folder no matter where it is on your computer. Even external drives. You can't do that with Google Drive or Dropbox.
........
Also they're giving everyone 15GB to start with free for life, 20GB with a referral. If anyone wants to start with that extra +5GB, you could use my referral code and we'll both get a bonus.
15GB +5GB = 20 GB
Send me a private message for my referral link....
Thanks guys!

Does copy.com sync with a folder on your computer like Skydrive?
-
yes it sure does
-
Mac and Linux clients available. That's cool.
-
-
I did it, and got two referrals and am up to 27GB already. Wow.
-
Looks nice, I'll consider recommending it to friends. I'll stick to skydrive personally, I was using it before Microsoft changed the formula, so I got 25 GB free and with my 4 years Office 365 subscription (which I also got free thanks to a student deal on Office 2010), it's up to 45 GB.
I'm curious, how does it handle deleted files? -

Ahhh ok, great info and thanks for taking the time to find out and post. I didn't understand exactly what you were asking which i think we both now realize lol.
On a side note i have been with Box for years and got in on a special offer of 50 gigs for free, and as much as i like the service i find the gui and user experience a bit clunky. And just realized recently that with my whopping 50 gigs of storage i only have 10 gigs of bandwidth per month it seems. Makes no sense except to try and get me to go premium which is no surprise. File size limit is 250mb also.
Guess i will see how copy fares on these issues.... -

^^ indeed !!!!!
Ok some more good info regarding Copy . com ~
Video streaming:
Apparently, Copy supports instant streaming of some forms of video. I just uploaded a personal video and as soon as the upload finished, I was able to stream it from Copy's web interface.
Quality was very good, and you can stream for public viewing as well.
Here's my link as a demo:
https://copy.com/JsphPK740HWL
Speeds
On my connection:
~0.5 - 1 MB/s upload
~2 - 3 MB/s download
Some faq, based on responses from their support team:
Q: What are the bandwidth limitations for both personal and shared / public use?
A: We do not limit bandwidth for personal shared / public use.
Q: What are the maximum theoretical upload / download speeds?
A: We do not limit bandwidth. Currently, we only allow one connection to our server at a time. This may cause slowness issues for some users. This will change when we open up our servers for multiple connections.
Q: Are there any limits on the number of times shared files can be downloaded?
A: No limits to the number of times you can share a file/folder
Q: Are there any limitations regarding the referral earned free data?
A: No limits to referral space earned. I think the record so far is ~10TB.
And seems to be no file size limit either !! -

Hmm...."Currently, we only allow one connection to our server at a time. This may cause slowness issues for some users."
Voostro...nice vid but streaming was too slow here to watch the whole thing. -
@TreeTops
thanks but you do realize the video is full HD ? 1080p
I cleared my browser cache and streamed again and it sure beats youtube at the same resolution/file size lol
not to mention the ability to stream in the first place is very useful, just saying
@unreal
yes I know but one must follow the rules, mostly
Send me a private message for my referral link....

Anyone tried this on their mobile device? How does the interface compare to dropbox?
-
So I created an account and I'm trying to get the 5GB from your referral link, but it's just sending me to the main page..
-

I would like to know where their servers are based? I'm assuming the US in which case I wouldn't be interested.
-
lol and I think I know, nsa, why.....
I am researching that now and just sent an email to them, barracuda networks
So far I see Copy provided by Barracuda Networks uses a Global Cloud Server System. -
You dog, you beat me to it!
My referral link is brand new and shiny! -
the problem is referral links are not allowed in posts or even signatures here I found out myself through recent unexpected moderation
I offer my referral link through PM and hope even that is ok !
-
Haha, I know it, I was kidding. I updated my post.
Joking aside, I appreciate this thread. Very cool that you can stream video as well as some of the other tidbits you've pointed out. -
