My laptop will be showing up any day now. I just want to know if it is possible to use bittorrent on a campus WiFi system without getting in trouble? Are they cappable of monitoring internet traffic or bandwidth usage? I want to use Bittorrent, but badly enough to risk getting my room stormed by the RIAA.

They can track anything that goes through the system.

College campuses are the highest targeted by the RIAA. Do not do anything illegal, ever.

I have friends that torrent all the time in their dorm without anything happening. They can track what you are doing, but you can try to lower your chance of getting caught by encrypting your outgoing connection and limit your download to less than 5 gig a week. Usually in many universities, getting caught the first time will just be a warning with a week or two suspension from using the internet.

Still I think I would go with Nizzy n Lithus' advice. Period. It just isn't worth it, IMHO.. that too from a college network. They are looking at u *all* the time.

My college is blocking P2P and messaging clients' ports.

You can watch **** though, except that the technician will be paying you a visit (WPA Enterprise system so they have your computer's log >_>)

    Agreed...its not worth the risk.

Since any discussion to get bypass the security measure your college put in place is against the forum rules, I am going to close this thread before it starts going that way. I suggest either paying for your own internet line or talking to your campus administration.
