Does anyone know how to play a dvd in fullscreen mode without any black borders (stretch the video a little)? I'm using Windows Media Player and Intervideo WinDVD, and both players have some black borders somewhere when playing a widescreen dvd (WMP is worse, the video isn't even as wide as the screen).

If your planing a dvd and your talking about the black bars on the top and bottom it's because the disk is in widescreen. They usually put a full screen and widescreen version on either side of the dvd. Do you have a widescreen display?

Yes, its a 15.4 inch widescreen, and the dvd is in widescreen format. The problem is that there are black bars on the top, bottom, AND sides.

That's because your PC screen has an aspect ratio of 16:10, while DVDs have a ratio of 16:9.
Your DVD player might support Wide Zoom Mode, which will zoom in on the DVD making it fill up your entire screen. -
Ok, so i did a bit of testing. The thing is, some DVD's play with only black bars on the bottom and top (the video plays as wide as the screen), while others (namely retail DVDs) play with black bars on all sides, the video does not fill up the screen in any direction. I'm trying to get it to at least fill in one direction, it simply defeats the purpose of having a widescreen if its just a small video in the middle.

That would be your DVD software messing with you. Try changing the Video settings in your player.

It's windows media player. There's no more settings--only full screen (not really), 50%, 100%, 200%. Oh well, i guess Intervideo WinDVD will have to do. Thanks for the help.
