I don't know why my previous topic was closed , I got problem with my laptop, it suddenly can't boot into windows, the screen turns black but the mouse cursor is still there. I tried to boot in safe mode but the same problem. I don't know if it's a virus or something. Unfortunately, I lost my recover disc so I'm stuck. Please help me to solve this problem.

Your previous topic got closed, had you read Padme's post, because, in her opinion as a moderator, the thread was diverging into a possible discussion of by-passing security measures, which sort of discussion is strictly not permitted on NBR.

Since you've lost your recovery discs (which are intended for precisely this sort of thing, you realize), and you cannot boot into safe mode, your only alternative is to send the system in to the manufacturer for service.

you are getting a black screen because of one of two reasons either your userinit.exe is missing or corrupt or ms has blacklisted or deactivated your vista lic key.

I don't think it's the latter, even if his key was deactivated, he would still have access to the desktop, but only IE would work. http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_sp1_screens_03.asp

Can you get to the menu where it lists the options for Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, etc? (press F8 repeatedly as soon as you turn on the computer) If so try Last Known Good Configuration and see if that works.

What system is it? We may be able to determine if you can use a recovery partition on the hard disk to recover

ok let me clear this out, after turn on laptop, it starts as usual , but right before the login screen start to appear, the screen turns black, I can only see the mouse cursor, I also lost my recovery disc. So what should I do? can I solve the problem myself? My laptop is still under warranty but I don't want to send it to the service center because it takes lot of time and I'm far away :( .
    Please help me!

My personal take is this. Since your laptop is still under warranty, send it in. Playing with it would only increase your chance to ruin your warranty. Saying that, you can try the followings:

. Plug in an external monitor and see how it behaves, using the FN to toggle between the lcd and the external display, and see if you can get a screen up. Or,

. Remove your drive, put it in an external housing, run a scandisk/chkdsk from another comp. Be aware that opening your machine under warranty can void it, or incurring some charges for repair under warranty.

The above suggestions may or may not work! And whatever it was, without a recovery or installation disk, you are "really" stuck!

    cheers ...
