Hello,
I've come across this problem before, and searching reveals no solution. Vista sometimes blanks out the network connection icon shortcut I have on the desktop.
Does anyone have any idea what .dll has the correct icon, so I can fix it?
Thanks.![]()

I guess imageres.dll....
So u could just kinda tell the LAN icon to get its icon from that dll file.. -
Thanks, but that wasn't it.
I tried netcfgx, netshell, netman, and shell32, they don't have the correct icon. -
imageres.dll is the Windows Image Resource, it should have all the icons..!!
or check this link.... -
I meant to mention imageres as well, but it doesn't have it.

or try out this version of imageres.dll, but backup your old one..!!

Or check out this link to download the icons....

I'd rather not. I found the fix a while ago, but I can't find it again.
IIRC, it had something to do with the icon cache getting messed up, and editing the desktop.ini and including the correct icon there. Can't find it now, ugh. -
I've posted this over at the microsoft technet forums.

You might try rebuilding the icon cache. Show hidden files and folders first, go to C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local, delete IconCache.db. Then restart the computer.

I tried that swarmer, and it still shows up blank. It's strange.
I'll try to rebuild the icon cache, thanks for the suggestion. -
Thanks haOkepa, rebuilding the cache worked.

What a dumb bug though, they should have caught it before SP1.
