Hi! I am writing in response to:
forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=113538
In this thread, the user blocked all outgoing connections and then created rules to allow only the ones he wanted.
I am trying to do the same thing, but I ran into a problem. I go through the steps of how to block all connections, and it worked. But then when it came to creating rules to allow the applications I wanted to access the internet, I couldn't get it to work. For example, I would make a rule for firefox.exe, however firefox could still not access the internet. I created the rule to allow for all profiles. I tried also with Windows Live Messneger, but that one didn't work either.
Has anyone had similar problems? I'm not really sure how to make the outgoing connection rules actually work.
Also, I was a little confused about some of the built-in rules. For example we have the, "Core Networking - Multicast Listener Done (ICMPv6-Out)" rule which is set up to allow for all programs and all services. How is it that this rule doesn't allow all programs to access the network? That part of the firewall just doesn't really make sense to me.
Thanks![]()

Just to start with.
What Firewall are you using? Windows or say Kaspersky? -
Thanks, it wouldn't let me post the link properly until my 15th post
.
Yep, I followed those directions as closely as I could, but still, despite making rules for them, firefox and MSN (or any other program I tried creating a rule for) couldn't access the network. Any suggestions?

hmm you could try this add-on for Vista Firewall
Vista Firewall Control -
Thanks, I tried out the add-on, but it still seems to have the same results. Really frustrating
