I recently had to reformat my hd and have reinstalled the recovery version of windows supplied by acer.

I am still getting weird faults though. It sometimes gives me blue screens with things like

    STOP: <000021a unknown hard error

    or

    Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then lots of blurb and at the bottom

    gwausb.sys Address B1929CIE B1928000

i have no idea what that is.

Other times it tries to bot up and then goes into a loop trying to load he network card and finishes by saying check cable

Somtimes when I reboot and it works seemingly i still get a windows mesae saying windows recovered from a fatal error. I tried sending the report to microsoft but they have no idea what caused the error. Sometimes they say its a driver fault.

How do I find out which driver is clashing with what? Is this something I can send to Acer for them to sort out?

    thanks for any help!

Verstrange, by all means i am no expert. I read a lot about computers and dable with my desktop parts. I too was getting the blue screen erorrs. This was occuring when I was trying to reload xp on my HD or once I got it loaded I was constantly getting errors.

I replaced my RAM and it fixed the problem. Put a new stick of RAM in the laptop and see if it works.

If the notebook is still under warranty, then get it sent back for them to figure out. Since you have restored the OS from the original image supplied by Acer, ther has to be something wrong with the hardware and Acer will cover it if you get it in while still under warranty.
