After a clean reinstallation of Windows 8 my Bluetooth device is not functioning. I have installed latest drivers for Windows 8 from the relevant website. I had disabled anti-virus throughout installation. I have also tried uninstalling, registry clean and reinstalling said driver software but nothing seems to work.

I have Killer Atheros Wireless-N 1202. The adapter is functional as it worked before clean reinstall.

The above are images detailing my issue. Device manager will not install the device. This is a nightmare. Any help very much appreciated!

Check under Network Adapters and let us know what is there. (In Device Manager)

Are there any hard (physical) switches or settings in the BIOS that could've been turned off?

Ok, well that fails. And, there are no physical switches.

The only last thing I can think of to try is uninstall the wireless driver (and any Bluetooth software you may have forced onto the machine) then reinstall the wireless driver first then try to install the Bluetooth driver again.

    -------------

    Edit:

I don't think you would've tried to install the Bluetooth before the Wireless but in case you did that would maybe be the source of the problem.

The driver is a all-in-one package. I cannot control the order in which it installs the software. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall this driver many times with registry wipes inbetween.

Definitely something amiss. I haven't seen all in one packages for that before. It worked before you reinstalled so it's not faulty. Hopefully someone will have another idea, maybe check the thread for your model.

I'll continue to look through my machine and think about why it is being troublesome.

This is what I see when I try to install driver (happens for whatever Qualcomm driver I attempt to install):

Could you check this setting (from the Precision threads):

    ------------------------------------
    Edit:
If by chance it is set wrong you would need to change it and afterwards probably reinstall the driver.

    Did not work :(

Tried reinstalling driver but same error (code 10) when trying to install via device manager.

Does it have to be installed through device manager? I thought it was an installer package including both wireless and Bluetooth. or you already tried that and it wouldn't take.

The driver installation package fails to associate the device to the correct driver. Any attempt to manually install driver to device in device manager brings up error code 10.

Last try for me: Look into the wireless card - hardware device manager configuration and see if there is a setting there. Usually there is some sort of link inside the wireless hardware settings interface for Bluetooth.

    --------------------
    Edit:

For real - one other: Shutdown, remove all power supplies then discharge the system by holding the power button down for a minute. Restore all power and boot up.

This is the last of my ideas, all out.

    --------------------

    Edit:

I have to ask, the machine was purchase with Win 8 on it and wasn't an upgrade from Win 7?

Now it gives a different error message. It was code 10 before, now it is code 43 after following your advice to discharge power from system. Still won't install though.

Purchased with Windows 8 from factory.

Well thought that was the last of my ideas. But hey something at least changed.

I'll assume you still have a legacy bios, maybe reset it to default and if you have any special settings restore them afterwards but before booting.

Be careful though if you're not sure. I don't know your model.

Some progress. Windows has suddenly decided to recognise the device after I uninstalled the driver this last time. It has installed generic bluetooth driver. It works as I it detected my phone's bluetooth. So definitely not hardware fault.

Dare I try and install Killer 1202 drivers again? I kind of need to as I need it to connect to WiFi!

I think maybe this is a good sign - sure try to install WiFi again.

If you were running the new machine on the factory image or the reseller responsible for image - I'd follow up on this issue and see if they know anything or others having trouble.

    YES!!!

    IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!! :D

I'm so relieved. I was beginning to fear that there was some sort of hardware fault. It works fine now. No idea what I did differently this time around. Very odd. I wish I could pinpoint what the magic fix was so I would know what to do if it ever occurred again in the future, but unfortunately I have no idea!

Thank you for all of your help. I really appreciate the time you gave to helping me solve this issue.

    You're welcome - success! Cheers :)

During the initial install Windows didn't acknowledge/inventory it for whatever reason and load the default driver. Sometimes discharging helps, so I do that first whenever something strange happens and before I reimage. It only takes a couple minutes.

    Glad you're up and running.

    -----------------------------
    Edit:

I wanted to add this - my M6600 one day just completely lost the fingerprint hardware. None on reboot, cold boot, nothing, just missing from the system. I didn't panic and get into the drivers because it just wasn't there and the drivers were working because it told me it couldn't find the device. Walked away for five minutes returned and discharged the system. All returned to normal as if nothing ever happened. Maybe just latent electrical charge keeping a gate open or something relevant in this way.

I think that's a bit harsh and unnecessary seeing how his problem is solved here. Now he thinks there's another problem and kept it within the confines of his model.
