Devices: Surface pro 4, any bluetooth headset

I did not have the problem described in the title for months

Then, a few months ago, now when I connect any bluetooth headset to the surface pro 4 and use the volume slider, I get a beep sound every time I change the volume. I get a louder beep if I go to 0 volume or mute.

This does not happen on my older surface tablet or any other windows device I have. It seems to have something to do with the way bluetooth devices interact with the version of windows on my surface pro 4. Someone must have thought that these annoying beeps are useful

    What I've tried
    - disabling windows default sounds. This is suggested on the internet, doesn't help with this
    - restarting tablet to factory settings, didn't change anything
    - check for windows updates, I'm already up to date

For my use case of listening to audio before bed/trying to relax, this is very annoying

    What might you try next?

The beeps seem like intentional features. Very odd that this does not happen with any of my other devices (Surface pro 3, surface book 2, thinkpad p51s none of these have this issue) And I didn't have this issue with the surface pro 4 until a few months ago.

Check your Driver for Bluetooth device and see what driver it is using.
