    I have an issue (somewhat) that I can't resolve...

    basically, when I boot up my laptop, and I get to the password screen, once I put in my password, sometimes the desktop comes up almost immediately and windows continues loading all my applications etc. Other times, it will stay in the welcome screen for about 10+ seconds with the circle (busy) on the screen, then it goes to a blank black screen with the mouse cursor on it for another 10 seconds or so, and FINALLY the desktop will come up.

    I have also read and applied many of the tips for tweaking found in the tweaking thread in this forum.

    I will post more info when I have the time, but for now, here are some general specs..

    HP Pavilion dv6500 Core 2 Duo T7300, 1 gig of RAM (other is being replaced and in the mail back to me) Vista Home Premium

    Thanks!

    Did you install any software, or hardware when the boot time gets ridiculously long? A lot of software and hardware install them self before shutdown but some also need the start up time. Also some programs like Unlocker for windows ask you if you want to delete/etc. on the next boot and that may be what's slowing you down.

    If your using Vista:

    1. hit WINkey + R;

    2. type 'msconfig' and hit enter;

    3. Go to Boot and check OS Boot Information;

    Reboot and watch what happens. Every process will be displayed on the screen so you have an idea what is occuring, or rather, its origin.

    Dont forget to change it back later.

    It happens for me too and I think that it's normal. It's all in the game.

    Sometimes the wired network is connected as instant ON. But some other time the exclamation mark comes up and then it takes a hell a lot of time time to connect to the network. This is what vista is all about. Take it easy.
