Has anybody managed to get cloning software to boot, I have Acronis 2015 but it uses UEFI x64 not x86 so it will not boot , I would like to do a clean install on my Tablet but i want to backup the original OS before i do so, almost all brands of Win8.1 Atom based tablets use x86 UEFI so it`s a widespread problem.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have Acronis 2014 and I have no problem to backup my hdds regardless the OS in the disks. I use USB stick to boot. I had at first a compatibility issue and the usb didn't boot in some pc because I formatted the usb drive in NTFS. I then reformatted the usb in FAT16 and the problem is gone.

    Anyway hope this could help.

I don't have tablet with windows. But I cloned win7, vista, xp, win10, x64, x86 from my pcs and laptops without any problem.

Make sure you set the boot priority for "usb hdd"

You notebook if it`s not Win8 does not use an UEFI bios, so you will not have a problem, normal Win8 notebook use x64 UEFI which is a security measure to stop malicious software from being run on a computer, Acronis and other cloning software works fine with UEFI x64, the new Win8 tablets use a 32bit UEFI that is not compatible with a lot of cloning software and the reason i started this thread.

One of my notebook use UEFI and I had no problem to clone the disk. Maybe it is UEFI x64. Have you tried to reformat the usb stick ? It costs nothing to try.

It`s nothing to do with booting from a usb stick, the stick is not the problem, what is on the stick is the problem, no x86 UEFI compatible cloning software, also i don't get my new Tablet till Monday, but i have had 6 or 7 before they were from HP ACER and ASUS but they all use an 32bit UEFI

I have had over 100 notebook over the last 20 years and the first thing i do when i get one is pull out the hdd/sdd and do a clone of it before i even turn the notebook on, and i have done with for years without a problem till these new Tablets came out.

My question would be, of those cloned drives, how many have you had to go back too?

All of them as i do a clean install, use the notebook for a couple of weeks then restore the original hdd and return the notebook, it keeps the reconditioned notebook market supplied.

You only start learning about a notebook when you do a clean install, next is a re-paste.

    Dear vindsloo7

Hummmm...after only two posts, you already start to use insult like a stupid kid. Are you created an account just for a sake to say such stupidity? Why are you so afraid and coward to use your usual account name ?

I have been trying to find a solution for over a year, i have read some threads about adding the x86 32bit UEFI file manually to the boot dvd/usb flash yourself , but i am not great at creating boot disks myself and was hoping somebody had created an off the shelf solution as a lot of people must have these tablets by now.

SteveT is just trying to help we all have to start somewhere, and i am thankful to him, there is always a chance he could fit a small piece of the jigsaw that allows a solution to my problem.

Question what Atom CPUs are these?
I have the Cedarview (2011) and Bay Trail Atoms (2013) and they work with 64 bit UEFI.

A cheap way is just using create Windows System Image and use the Windows 8.1 Install to restore the Windows Image.

They use the "Intel® Atom™ Processor Z3700 Series" which are 64bit compatible , but the tablet themselves chipset/bios only use uefi x86 32bit.

As i said i have used the latest Asus, Acer and Hp tablets and they all use x86 32bit eufi

Wow, didn't know there are uefi boards that are only explicit to load the 32 bit only which is a downer ... then only 32 bit OS can be installed.

It`s funny when you do a Google search and come across your own thread, still trying to boot form a x86 UEFI on Win8.1 with Bing

After trying various cloning software without success, I finally managed to clone my tablet with macrium free. My tablet is a Chuwi Vi8 Windows + Android system. It's a system with 32-bit efi and intel Z3735F cpu. I've been able to create a rescue disk, use it to boot into the Macrium software and sucessfully backup and restore the image of the entire disk. I've tried other imaging tools such as Acronis True Image and Todo Backup without success and finally got this one working. Hope this will be helpful to your course. PS. I did encountered a hardware problem during booting from the rescue disc. The problem goes away after I replaced my USB 2 hub with a different one.

I've had a few Windows 8/8.1 tablets at this point that I've had to clone for work and each one is different. I've used Macrium in the past but for the latest Lenova 2 Windows 8.1 tablets (atom z3745 )I had to use a specific version of Clonezilla (clonezilla-live-2.2.4-14-amd64), as newer and older versions simply didn't work. Gave me a whole bunch of redundant errors regarding EEMC, but it eventually brought me to the standard Clonezilla interface.

I manged to boot Clonezilla, to the blue select language page, but i cannot select anything, it is default to english but i cannot select ok to continue, neither the keyboard or touchpad or touchscreen or usb mouse can select anything, and i have tried all Clonezilla 1-7 option and none of them get past the the blue select language page.

I also tried the latest Clonezilla and it`s just the same as the version you posted.

    I might try Macrium

EDIT: I got Macrium to work, I made a boot usb drive and did a backup/image to an external hdd and then i verified it, and i was told it was ok, I had to disable secure-boot to get Macrium to boot.

    Thanks

    John.
