Howdy, I am trying to troubleshoot my girlfriend's laptop from 3 hours away. It is running Vista and both Firefox and Internet Explorer are crashing on start up. Firefox won't even open and IE gives error code 290 I think...

I had her run a virus scan and it came back clean. Glary Registry Repair failed to complete and I am not there so I dunno why. System restore to a point two weeks back did nothing to improve the condition.

I won't have the laptop in my hands until Friday but I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I am up against. Right now I am looking at just reinstalling Vista unless someone thinks this is fixable? Does anyone know if I need a CD to reinstall vista or does Toshiba have a recovery partition.

    Thanks!

Try asking her to launch Firefox in Safe Mode, and see if it'll open.

    Update:

IE just randomly started working. Dunno how or why. Due to conditions beyond my control, nothing has been tested yet on firefox. Once they does happen I will let yall know.

    Thanks for the advice!
