My laptop shipped with Home Premium on it. Once I heard about shadow files I needed to have it.
I purchased Ultimate from my University.
Unfortunetly I can not figure out how to upgrade without a full install. The Windows Anytime Upgrade program requires that you purchase Ultimate online before it will continue.
I tried changing the key in the computer properties dialog, but it will not accept a key from another edition.
This was a clean install of Home Premium x64, with the authorization information restored from the OEM install. Obviously all of the files are present, if I had simply entered this key instead of restoring my activation information it would be ultimate.
Is there a program on the anytime CD that does this?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan

If you have an Ultimate disc, you can install within windows and it'll give you an upgrade option. If you install from boot-up, you can only do a clean install.
If you have an anytime upgrade disc, you can choose which version you want to install (Ultimate in this case) and proceed from there. -
You boot the DVD you bougth in windows...
Also, if your Ultimate is an OEM vwresion, you cannot upgrade -
The upgrade option is greyed out for me, but that is due to the 32-bit disc, not the 64. If this were to work, would that only update the edition, leaving everything else alone?
Bought Ultimate, Unable to upgrade (from home Premium)
