So I bought a brand new laptop (HP dv2415nr) with Windows Vista Home Premium on it, but I think it's a little slow, and want to put Windows XP Media Center or Professional on it...

The only thing I'm concerned with...is will all the features on the laptop still work? (i.e. the webcam, built in mic, Quickplay, the HP mobile remote)

Has anyone done this...and will it work? Especially with the HP dv2000 series, which most have the features mentioned above...)

    Thanks

From the looks of things on HPs site, the only Windows XP driver they have available for your model is for the touchpad, so you might not even get your video card working properly. If drivers from previous iterations of the DV2000 series will work, you may be OK, but that is hardly a guarantee of any kind.

You may want to call HP to see if they have plans for releasing any XP drivers.

Why would one buy a new piece of technology and then backlevel it?

Do a Vista clean install using your serial number.

Also, be sure to have 1.5-2GB of RAM

@AKAJohnDoe: How is switching to XP "backleveling"? It's no different that buying a new laptop and installing Linux. Sure, it's not the latest and greatest mainstream, but it tends to be more stable and less bloated.

have you tried any of the various tweaks to rid vista of bloat and speed it up? if not, reco trying them or at least wait until sp1 is out before throwing in the towel. just my $.02 :)

my personal take is that a new laptop is almost always coming across as "slow", since it comes with - as datalife mentioned - loads of bloat and "adwertised" ware. This is regardless of xp or vista. There r enough threads in the forums to make life under vista a lot more enjoyable. i double datalife's 2 cents on this

    cheers ...
