    Hey.

Bought new laptop with 1080p screen, TEXT is too small in browsers.....

I know that I can zoom in browsers but that takes away quality from images mostly.

For example in firefox you have to manually zoom into each website as the settings are not default....so not sure how to do that.

How do people with 1080p screens deals with this?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks.

You can set the default text sizes in Firefox, tell it to not go below a certain size. You may also want to increase your DPI in Windows.

^I agree with Pitabred. Increase your DPI in Windows 7 and it will affect the text size.

Edited: Sorry, I thought you were talking about Windows. There should be a font size setting, zoom in function/plugin for FireFox to increase the text size. I know you'll be able to do this in IE and Google Chrome.

Pretty sure increasing Windows DPI doesn't affect websites in Firefox. I think it only increases the size of toolbars and options windows in Firefox.

    To set dpi in Firefox:
Type "about:config" into the URL bar.
Change the "layout.css.dpi" value; default is -1 or 96.

I have poor vision and a 15.6" screen with 1920x1080 res (Windows dpi set to 169%). I keep Firefox dpi at the default 96 but increase the minimum font size (Options / Content / Fonts / Advanced).

But I still have to hit Ctrl+ a couple times when I first browse to a website (Firefox saves those settings thankfully).

View / Zoom / (check) Zoom text only

Why not just lower the resolutions to 1440x900 or better yet 1280x800?

Lower resolutions don't look nearly as good

Lower resolution does not look good....

Is it better to zoom text only on all websites or zoom in the whole website?

There's an option to set default text style and size I think. It defaults at 16 an Times New Roman. Maybe try to play with that?

You shouldn't be using non-native resolutions on LCD screens. Not only does it take away the point of paying more for higher-res displays, but also introduces some fuzziness and reduces image quality.

Zooming only text may alter the look of some websites, but in general, it would probably yield better results.

If you increasing DPI in windows 7 to 125% Internet Explorer will use that setting too.
For Firefox you can use the amazing plugin Nosquint: https://urandom.ca/nosquint/ and set the full zoom level to 125% for all sites. If you come acros a site where you find the text size too big and you decrease the zoom it will be remembered for future use.
For Opera you can set the zoom level at 120% in the settings/options.
(Sorry I can't be more precise, but I'm at work now with no access to Opera)

After using my 16" 1920 x 1080 res display for a while I set the default DPI in windows back to 100% and use Firefox with Nosquint at 125% for websites.

I agree with MidnightSun that you must use a LCD screen at its native resolution.
