Currently I think it would be unfair to compare these two browsers. The issue is there is no final version of Internet Explorer 8 unlike Firefox 3. Meaning opinions will be based on incomplete information, biasim and other such factors.

Once the final product is out we will know who is the winner :).

True, IE8 seems to be delayed a tad too much when it is launched it will have a lot of ground to cover.

Lol, love the voting option for IE8. IMHO there is an easy way to make a decision. Which one is Microsoft making? IE8, right, that'll be the BAD one. No further detail needed. And what parts of it that don't end up bad are probably ripped directly from Firefox (see IE7 which was a total Ctrl+C Ctrl+V We're a huge multinational company try and stop us by Microsoft).

Ok, I think I'm finished my hate Microsoft speech for the day.

In that case, an OS should work right out of the box too! Why install third party apps to make it work? It should work right out of the box!!

3rd party softwares don't make OS work. It works without them.

If FF dethrones/expands its user base dramatically then FF wins else IE is the winner. FF became popular in the transition period between IE6 and IE7 with the new features like tabbed browsing, +1 to Mozilla for business acumen.

I voted for Firefox, I'm no fan of Oper'as interface at all. I came to Firefox at 1.5 and have been with it ever since. I personally think Firefox will win these browser wars.

Wow, ages since I last posted. Obviously FF3; I've been using it and the speed and functionality are incredible. Web pages load faster then with any other browser I've tried, and the minimalist screen and plugins (Ad Block Plus anyone?) just further the "wow" factor. In short, I never plan to switch to IE8, except for the occasional windows update session.

We must be objective, we get one browser, use it, compare and keep the best, if IE8 comes better than Opera, FF and others, would be wise not to get it?

I use what the best browser for me is, right now it's Firefox. Some people like Opera, some people like IE, some people like Safari. I'm fine with that, if i suddenly start to hate Firefox tommorow you can bet the world i'll go looking for something better. I feel people should use what they want.

I think I actually have a new favorite web browser - I acquired the Safari 4 Developer Preview and in addition to passing the Acid 3 test to 100% (fairly smoothly I might add) it has an option to use Windows-default font smoothing - getting rid of the maddening "everything's bolded" Apple font smoothing. It also seems faster than FF3 and well, anything's faster than IE.

And the obligatory comment to everyone saying IE "is great out of the box": enjoy your viruses/trojans/keyloggers, crashes, and scores of pages rendering improperly. You're using the web browser so "great," that the US government recommends you use something, ANYTHING else.

Acid3 is the latest CSS/HTML web-standards browser compliance test. It, as well as the previous two versions of the test, can be found here:

I personally don't give a crap about this...

I've always used IE, and guess what my FF fanboys? I've never had a single virus before. IE is just as safe as FF if you aren't browsing *illegal* or *dirty* sites. I personally never (maybe once or twice, and that was because I was multitasking like mad) had IE crash on me. And webpages loading improperly? That has never happened to me, unless you count the time where I went to a site that required the FF browser to load the video.

Really? Never eh? Go up and roll your mouse cursor over the little menu bars. The ones that say "HOME," "Notebook Database," "Notebook Reviews," etc. Notice how they light up as you scroll over them? Oh, you don't notice that do you? Oh, right, that would be becasue IE fails at rendering. No seriously, it fails; it even says so in big letters right in the top right corner.

What are you trying to say here? Everyone has different definitions of properly. And my definition of properly is that the webpage does not look all wierd and does not screw up. I don't see anything wrong with IE's loaded webpages. I was considering FF, but then I realised that I'd have to have two browsers installed, since there are certain tasks which require IE. Waste of space. An Internet Browser was meant to be used to open up webpages. And IE does that pretty well.

FF is just a load of eye candy. The extra features that only 1/10 of us actually use, and the bandwagon that "FF is more secure". Seriously, if you look at porn, yes, you need firefox. If you look at warez, then yes, you'll need firefox. If you want to browse the Internet, then no, you don't need firefox.

A few "tests" don't really mean anything.

I mean, IE7 loads ALL of the webpages I visit without problems. Oh man, the "Home" button at the top of the screen doesn't highlight when I roll the mouse over it!! Come on, man. Get out of FF's ass. Sure it's a good browser, but so is IE7.

I really preferred IE7 until it started freezing randomly for 5-10 seconds hundreds of times an hour. I didn't like FF2 so much, so I suffered through whatever is causing IE7 to run like a jackrabbit on pot.

But yeah, FF3 came out and I tried it and I have to admit I really like it. I especially like how it deals with downloads. I would've never discovered FF3 unless IE7 had started causing me problems.

That said, if IE8 fixes said issues for me, I'll give it a shot.

I use Opera or IE8 beta cuz it runs in 64bit and not emulation. Also I think the reason that IE runs better than FF is the simple reason that IE is the proprietary browser for Windows. Firefox became extremely popular cuz when it was first released IE was absolutely HORRIBLE so everyone flocked to FF. They are both great browsers so to say that one is better than the other is just an opinion.

I think Mozilla has made the same mistake(with FF3) that MS made with IE6, produce a retrograde browser and in the meantime the other browser takes the catch.

Does anyone know when is IE8 being released for the public as a final product?
