Who will win?
My preference:
1. Firefox
2. Chrome
3. Opera
4. Safari
5. IE
And why is IE the only browser that doesn't auto login on websites?

1. Opera (by far)
2. Chrome (only for Gmail, since it loads it so fast, and can easily create a start menu shortcut)
3. IE (for compatibility)
I see no use for Firefox, as most sites not compatible in Opera are so poorly designed that they do not render correctly in Firefox either. Besides, Firefox's rampant memory leaks and massive memory usage with the addons I need to match Opera's feature set makes it an unattractive choice. Also, it starts up slower than Opera, despite that fact that Opera has so many more features built in. I don't even have it installed on my new T500, seeing as I never even used it on my old laptop. -
1. Safari Beta 4
2. IE8 RC1
3. Firefox 3.0.7(sorry)
The new public Safari Beta 4 is blazing fast with a resume feature for downloads too! It is still a beta so there are still some bugs, but I still prefer it over the rest. I like Firefox, but sometimes it feel slow. Maybe it's just me, but IE sometimes seems more stable to me than Firefox. I only use firefox for the videodownloader plugin to get videos and resume but other than that IE8 comes in 2nd place. -
1. Firefox
2. Opera
3. IE
I mostly use Firefox on both XP and Ubuntu, but recently I'm slowly switching to Opera. I can't ditch IE since some of my dad's business apps need it. -
Firefox is cool, but I'm not a web dev and only used a few plug-ins there. I moved to Opera when they opened up and became free. They've continually been adding new features that I enjoy using like the built in mail client, speeddial, etc.

Firefox, because I could never customize any other browser to look like this (all Aero glass):

what theme is that? -

Firefox all the way for me. For some reason Opera and IE load so much slower on all the computers that I have tried them on. Maybe once I recieve my new laptop I will try each of them out once again.

Vista:
Avant (IE 8) for compatibility
Chrome
Linux:

1. Opera
2. Firefox
3. IE
...
11.Chrome (sorry, it's from Google and they know enough with their search enginge, they don't alse have to know what sites I visit) -
IE8 RC1 is such a complete improvement over 7... completely new engine. And it's the only browser for now that uses Vista's innate safety capabilties, essentially making it safer than the others.
If memory serves Firefox 4 should be able to do this. -
For me, at ther moment:
Opera as a main browser - it feels lighter and faster, but it has some annoying flaws...
And one of my favorite newspapers doesn't render correctly - the hompage of the Times...
www.timesonline.co.uk - the "subsites" on the same domain do though...
And then IE7 whenever I need a password and username that I do not want to remember as I can store them under my fingerprints - something that Opera does not support.
I have to say though, that after getting my Vaio I used first IE7 a lot, on my Medion before I used FF3 - after IE7 on my Vaio I first moved to FF3.
Opera is a quite recent addition - I shunned it from version 8.5x to 9.61 - just because 8.5x was absolutely horrid - while 9.6x is generally fine -
like portable applications...
1 Firefox portable
2 Opera portable -
Opera is my #1, and has been for years. Thinking of trying Safari 4 once it comes out of beta.
-
Firefox
IE 7 (rarely used) -
lineS of flight Notebook Virtuoso
Opera (though I wish I could get rid of the Mail function)
IE8 (which I am really looking forward to)
FF is OK, but somehow I have an irrational aversion to it. So, while I do have it on and use it, I am not partial to it.
Chrome...I was all gung-ho when it came out, but much less so now, especially because Opera works much better with gmail now.
I think in the long run, in terms of 'slickness' Opera will win out. In terms of mass usage, it will remain IE. -
-
Of course, this assumes Microsoft's operating systems remain the bulk of what is used.
-
I do not expect IE to have the market share it does now in say 5 years. Microsoft is going to have to fight for it now. -

I'm just curious.
What happens with regard to EULAs?
Will you have to accept 10 different ones if 3rd party browsers become an "integrated standard"? -
And no you wouldn't. The anti-trust rulings that came out of the IE / Netscape battle back in the 1990's, there's nothing to prevent Google from doing deals of their own with computer makers. -
For example the part of "auto suggestions".... I never used Chrome or tried t for that reason, I don't need Google spying on me, collecting data and then using targeted advetising.
What regards the contracts with computer makers...
That's another matter...
One word just comes to my mind:
If they offer more than one browser - bloatware... -
And that's not bloatware either. -
But Chrome is in its default set to collect more data than they would normally get.
If manufacturers add additional nonessential software its bloatware - so if they offer only chrome - I'd be annoyed then - and no other browser, then it isn't.
But if a laptop comes with IE7/8 and say Chrome - then one of the two is bloatware - as one browser is enough on a system when its sold.
If one uses more later on should be the user's choice. -

For me, Chrome is spyware:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#Usage_tracking
http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-09-09-n68.html
Your Chrome software gets a unique ID to get logged. You have to run an additional third party software to make your Chrome installation anonymous.
Yes you can deactivate a lot of features and do other stuff to remove the spyware behaviour, but a normal user won't do this, and thus it's spyware in my opinion. -
1) FF3
2) Chrome
3) IE7 (8 once it's done) -

Does IE not auto login on websites for security reasons?
-
1. IE: most compatible with web sites.
2. Safari: faster but some pages won't load correctly
3. Google: a tad faster but again some pages won't load correctly
4. Opera: same speed as Safari and same problems.
2, 3, 4 has some learning curve and sometimes it's cumbersome. Love the new Safari 4 Beta.. more visually appealing with the multiple web sites showing and you have the option of side way scrolling.
IE seems pretty quick but then again I'm a leisure reader. -

There is no if, Google announced Chrome will get plugins months ago. -
I love firefox for so many reasons with extensions being probably my top reason. And with 3.5 coming out soon, it only gets better.
-
For me, it's Firefox. I've tried Opera, Chrome, various versions of IE, and always come back to FF. It's hands down the best, IMO.

yeah yeah firefox -

I prefer Firefox, but it doesnt work for online banking, so I use IE for that
-

what a crap-bank that'll be..(my banks work from firefox and such)
edit: then again, being from switzerland, i shouldn't talk about crap-banks currently -
I mostly use in this order:
1. Chrome
2. FF 3
3. Safari/Opera...tie here
4. IE8...it still suxs 4 me -
Oh, I'm running Shiretoko (Firefox), dunno why, I should just go back to normal Firefox.
Normal Firefox works on their site -
I believe Firefox will, followed by Chrome. Internet Explorer is long dead to most ppl and there was even a Cnet vid that rated all of the browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE, Safari) and here is the order they came in.
1. Firefox
2. Safari
3. Tie between Opera and Chrome
4. IE -

Firefox is great with all the add-ons but for a no frills browser I'd go with Opera. I have Opera installed on my windows, mac, and linux ^^
