So...I took the plunge and downloaded the student version of windows 7 professional upgrade for $39.99 CAD.

Currently running Windows Vista Ultimate. Made an ISO/burned it on a DVD/ ...I go to upgrade...Bumbaclot!

It says I can't because I have Vista Ultimate?? I must only upgrade to a 7 Ultimate? ....I think that's ridiculous!

I've read forums on NBR and forums around the web regarding this...best way to get around this is to do a clean install...how exactly? can anyone please help me out?

So a 'clean install' is re-install by inserting Vista Ultimate cd again...once that's installing I upgrade windows 7?? I'm really not sure what to do at this point. If anyone can help me out that would be great.

    Cheers

A clean install would mean installing windows 7 OVER vista, erasing everything on your hard drive. Back everything up, and then try to install Windows 7. This is what I had to do.

I believe there is a way to change what edition of W7 gets installed. Do a search on these forums or google.
