So...I took the plunge and downloaded the student version of windows 7 professional upgrade for $39.99 CAD.
Currently running Windows Vista Ultimate. Made an ISO/burned it on a DVD/ ...I go to upgrade...Bumbaclot!
It says I can't because I have Vista Ultimate?? I must only upgrade to a 7 Ultimate? ....I think that's ridiculous!
I've read forums on NBR and forums around the web regarding this...best way to get around this is to do a clean install...how exactly? can anyone please help me out?
So a 'clean install' is re-install by inserting Vista Ultimate cd again...once that's installing I upgrade windows 7?? I'm really not sure what to do at this point. If anyone can help me out that would be great.
Cheers

A clean install would mean installing windows 7 OVER vista, erasing everything on your hard drive. Back everything up, and then try to install Windows 7. This is what I had to do.

thanks...but what I downloaded was the upgrade...can I still do a clean install from the upgrade disk?
there's gotta be a way around this....
(...frustration building) -
I believe there is a way to change what edition of W7 gets installed. Do a search on these forums or google.

if you downloaded from digital river you can use the instructions in the link in my sig to make a dvd that can do a clean install with your key

so...I gave it a try
clean install a.k.a. custom install ...and it worked from vista ultimate to 7 professional.
Bumbaclot!
