First off, I assume that it is only illegal to sell copies of rented DVDs, not burn them for private use. Yes?

That aside, is it possible to burn Netflix and other rented DVDs? I tried once with a Netflix DVD and it didn't work; a friend reported the same. Is there a way around this?

Pretty sure its possible, due to technology today.

However, I would assume they would place devices on such DVDs to screw up the laser when 'burning' rental DVDs?

DVDs nowadays aren't that expensive though...
