Hey, I just had a question about burning movies onto DVD discs.

I have an .avi file that I want to play on my DVD player. I was wondering, would it make a difference in quality if I burnt using Windows Media Player rather than Nero? I've used Nero before with good experiences but just wanted to know whether there was much of a difference between the free WMP and Nero.

    Also, should I burn 4:3 or 16:9?

Thanks for havin' a look. :)

do you mean burn onto DVD as an AVI or converted to VOB? I can't say I've ever used WMP to convert to VOB (didn't even know it could).

Well, I'm not sure what you mean but I popped in an empty DVD-R disc and the autoplay window came up and I selected the one that lets you make a Movie Dvd using WMP and I added an .avi file into the project and burnt it.

Not sure whether it converted it into VOB or not but it worked on my DVD player. I just wanted to know whether it would have given me better quality if I used Nero.

A lot of DVD players can play AVI files. If yours can, burn the movie as a data disk (no conversion, best quality). If it can't then FAVC (which is free) will give you excellent quality and is pretty easy to use. Personally I wouldn't use either Nero or WMP. Burn the FAVC output files using ImgBurn.
