I just bought a new notebook with a DVDRW and was wondering which burning software you would recommend. I have a fair amount of data I need to back up (presentations etc.) and would prefer using 1-2 DVDs instead of multiple CDs. I've used Alcohol 120 when burnings CDs, would this be a good program to use for DVDs? Or are there better programs available?

I'd use Nero. Should have come with your drive. If you wanted the absolute best, I'd suggest k3b, but that's Linux only ;)

I use Nero pretty much exclusively, never had any complaints.

I also like the fact that I can back backup .ISO images of my software CD's in case I need to reinstall later and find that the disk has gained a scratch.

I got tired of all the clutter, duplication and DLLs out the wahoo. Seems like I would end up with 7 programs to use favorite features.

For just straight file burning I use windows which use roxio drivers, works very well for the price ;)

For the odd ISO file I use one of the best, Imageburn, free.

For Music, iTunes for mp3 cd's or DVDs. OK, I'm back to three, but the price is right? Total size; around 20meg due to iHog.

Im cheap, Roxio came complements of a friend several years ago and I take it with me to each new notebook. I have gotten so used to it for my everyday burn that I cant learn how to use anything else. GL

What are some of the actual benefits to CD/DVD burning with Nero 7 over Nero 6.6?
