    Hey guys -
I'm trying to burn an AVI video onto a DVDR so i would be able to play it on a DVD player. Well, i searched other threads, and came to conclusion that ImgBurn is probably the best software to do that. What i thought i would do first is create an image file, ISO, from files, then i would "write" that ISO image file to a DVDR disc. I figured that would make it work on my DVD player, to my disappointment, it didn't.

What am i doing wrong? Do i need another program? Is it even possible?

    Please help!

.avi/divx doesnt play on some dvd players. You need to encode it to a proper dvd format.

    do you have nero?

Depends. If the avi is of the divx nature, Nero *may* have a problem with reencoding the audio in synch. I would look for authoring software that has specific divx capabilities, or buy a dvd player that plays such a format.

Nero 7 is capable, if its not then you will have to convert it first to a different format

You can use SUPER to convert it to .vob (dvd compliant) or something

Question - once you convert an AVI to .vob/any DVD format, what do you with the file? Create an image ISO file out of it, or just write it on a DVDR as it is? Will that make it play on a DVD player?

YAY! It worked! I'm soo happy!! First convert to .vob using Allok, then build an image file, ISO, and burn on a DVDR using ImgBurn.

    Which is a better format

    .vob or Divx or Xvid????

I personnaly jst burn my Xvid or Divx files directly to a DVD then play it. .vob is much of a hassle for me.

    So which is better????

I use ConvertXtoDVD. It's extremely easy to use and produces flawless DVD encoded discs.

All you need is DVDFlick to convert/encode the .avi file. It even comes with IMGBurn to burn the .iso it creates to DVD. Far better than Nero for DVD burning, IMO, though I say that because it is freeware and can be obtained honestly!

If your player can play DivX or XviD then by all means that's the best format. If you want to convert the .AVI to a standard DVD then FAVC is an excellent choice. It uses either Quenc for fast results or HCenc when quality matters. It is free.

Glad to see you got it working. You don't really have to make an iso all you need is a program that will burn dvd files to a dvd like i said dvdshrink works like a champ.
