So my sister has decided that she wants her vista back on her laptop. So i have the option to buy myself a vista home premium or wait till windows 7 is released. I don't want to wait for a long time. I need to do my programming for university on windows. So basically my question is when will windows 7 be released and do i wait? Or do i simply buy windows vista home premium?![]()

I'd suggest just getting a vista license. Win7 final is still far off.
You could go the beta route. But I can't suggest it. -
If you can't wait, i'd go for Vista. There's no date set in stone when it's going to be released, and it's still a long way off.

Thanks for your quick response!!I'll just get the vista home premium. Btw, does it come with the service pack 1 included or i'll have to update it? I'm buying the oem version at the local retailer.
-
It should come with SP1. But i guess it depends how long they've had the copy for.
-
Ok thanks!!I will buy it tomorrow or next week.

...Or you may just use W7 RC. I see you have a MAC..so you'd be using Windows for games & programming? It should do the job really.... If you plan on getting W7 in the end, you're saving

it's for his sisters system. no clue what she has. maybe a mac, too.
i won't suggest using betas as mainsystems for others any day. -

actually, if i read that right:
"SHE WANTS HER VISTA BACK ON HER LAPTOP"
now does she have a licence, or not? you won't need to buy a fresh one, then -
OOps!! i have bought it. i have returned my sister her vista dvd. I wanted windows 7 but couldn't afford to wait such a long time for a new windows. Hope i get a free upgrade to windows 7 when it gets released!!
I was using her serial..I had put windows xp on her toshiba. -
How do you know if you can get a free upgrade to W7?
-
If you buy vista after set date
-
I think the upgrade program that was rumored to start in July only applies to machines bought from certain OEMs (Dell, HP, Acer etc....) that have Vista pre-installed qualify for a free upgrade to 7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that a copy of Vista bought on its own doesn't qualify for a free upgrade, although it would be nice if it is the case.

I would have suggested using Windows 7 RC for now, which I believes works until like July 2010 (that's what I heard) and it is very stable. By then, the retail Windows 7 would have come out and you can update to the retail version.
Buy vista home premium or wait for windows 7?
