have a C502us Compaq Pressario Notebook Computer.
Took VISTA off, put XP HOME on. A bit of hassle, but okay once I got the drivers.

Now... I get the XP PRO from my son's college since he is going to use computer. Load XP PRO, and the SP2. (Disk says x64, but x64 not loaded when I look at my computer, about.)

Then, I loaded AVG free trial virus checker. That was hosed in that it asked for a key and would get locked up.

And the external USB wired optical mouse will not work now.

I have been with HP support and unloaded all usb drivers and Quick Launch Buttons. Re load. Latest Quick Launch driver.
Went to usoft help and saw a fix for this exact issue. Went into registry and did the deletions of entries they designated. Took off all USB drivers.
    Re-boot...
No luck. Even if I tell the driver loader where the driver is, it wont load. The mouse is recognized, but can't seem to get driver to load. Pulled down microsoft driver for the optical mouse, explicit model.

I have decided this is not worth it. I may go MAC.

    Anyone with same experience? Hints?
    Thanks.
