Basically, I'm getting Vista Ultimate 32-Bit from the notebook manufacturers,
but I want to have 64-bit. I asked Dell (Alienware), LG, HP, Samsung, Asus, etc.
if they would ship/carry a notebook with 64-bit vista, but they told me no

Anyone know if I can upgrade my preinstalled 32-bit Vista Ultimate that
comes with the notebook to a 64-bit Vista Ultimate?

I've searched the net, but I keep getting mixed responses...

Thank you for the help :D

I don't see why not. If you have a retail disc for x64, you should be able to reformat with that. There are no rules saying that you have to keep an OEM installed OS on the machine. They do however specify that you cannot install that OEM OS on another machine.

Odd that they tell you that they won't ship any notebook with 64bit. I can't speak for most of those, but I just purchased an HP with 64bit Ultimate.

Anyway, to clarify, you CAN NOT upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, but you CAN reinstall, and use your OEM license. You might want to check out the sticky in the HP section as it will give you step by step instructions. You can also use the license on the bottom of your laptop.

Also, if you don't have the Anytime Upgrade disc, you should check out this thread. The links in that thread were valid last night, but don't typically last long.
