is this program worth installing on your pc or notebook? does it really increase the speed of your system because it erases unused files, cookies, etc. and opens up more HD space?

    YES

you can also use it to uninstall programs... it actually gets rid of every part of the program. it also cleans up your registry and permanently deletes files in the recycle bin... and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Both yes, and no. It may make your system faster by deleting temporary files and doing mild registry cleanup, but on the other hand it could do nothing and just be a lump of coal there because you don't have many temp files and your registry is pretty clean.

I think in the past, I tried it and it didn't work out too well. Messed up some of my settings and what not.

Now that I'm older, wiser (yeah right), and CCleaner has gone through many revisions, it is definitely a hell of a lot better. The latest update scans quicker and deletes files a lot faster compared to the one before.

I have ccleaner. It is an amazing program, and cleans up registry errors (lets u back them up), clean hdd space, and important of all, you can delete files with a nsa strength 7pass rewrite. Set it to that in settings. Basically that means ccleaner rewrites the data with 7 random digits or something....

    Guys,

I use lastest version v2.05.555 CCleaner so far working well with my Vista 64bit.

Sometimes apps/dll, etc present running in backgrounds which files is not able to remove it.

I always go into Safe Mode to perform the tasks. (during cleans works best in SAFE-MODE most of times).

You want it. It's pretty trustworthy on registry clean up. I run it everytime I uninstall something. Great program.

I've been using CCleaner for years and it does a good job at "marking" files as inactive so that they may be overwritten by new ones, but it really does not "delete" much of anything (securely or otherwise).

If you run CCleaner's sister program Recuva, you may be surprised to see that it finds most of what CCleaner has "deleted" (even in secure overwrite mode). Recuva is also able to recover most of those files, which can come in handy if you accidentally deleted something......
