I have piriform ccleaner and have it set to the 35 pass deletion. more secure. If it does the 35 passes on a 1gb file for example, does it delete the whole file and leave bits left? I mean, when it overwrites, how much data does it use to overwrite? How much is created after it is deleted?

When it overwrites something, it doesn't necessarily delete it. It overwrites it the amount of times you specify with random binary. 35 times shouldn't leave any original data left.
-
So ccleaner doesnt actually delete the cookies and other things on your computer it just jumbles them to make them unreadable?
-
Yes, it deletes cookies. But for secure data deletion, it overwrites it and then "deletes" it. When windows "deletes" an item, it just says that the space is free to overwrite, it doesn't do so immediately. Therefore, someone with some easy to get a hold of software can un-delete your data and see it if you let windows delete your files.

but ccleaner takes care of this correct?
-
what i was asking, is if you delete a 1gb file with 35 passes, how much has it deleted? 999.99mb's? so will you always be able to have space?
