I've always used a free version of Roxio CD burner for my simple data and music burning needs. But I now have a DVD burner on my new laptop and need software that will burn DVDs. I'd have to buy the $30 Roxio dvd burning version at the store but someone mentioned I should check out CD Burner XP.

The software looks fine to me, but I was hoping I could get feedback on if it can be relied upon to burn data DVDs without data corruption etc. I make a lot of data backup DVDs, and I want to be rest assured that the software is as reliable as Roxio has always been. I've always found Roxio simple to use and it's never screwed up a burn leaving me to later find missing data etc.

    Anybody got any experience?

    Thx everyone :)

NO!! CDBurnerXP has sucked in my experience. I always use Sony DVD disks because I'm a biased Sony freak so maybe it has been my disks. but honestly, too, I have tried a few of my friends Fuji's and still had cracked out results.

example: even at a low burn rate (which should ensure better quality etc) my movies would distort in the middle of the scene, 1-2 seconds lapse.

I have used it on my Sony FE790, ToshibaM45, Dell Dem 4600, and Dell XPS 410.

The results? Often times the DVD will burn alright without a problem.

Many times it will spend 30 minutes burning a disk and then report some sort of error message, in which case the disk is ruined, and my time has been wasted.

I have recently, uh, picked up Nero 7 Ultra Ed, and I have never experienced a better burning experience + customization + so many options.
