I've been using Easy CD Creator 5 from Roxio to burn CDs. My new laptop has a DVD burner and I need to get some software. Easy CD Creator 5 has worked flawlessly for me. Easy to use, never a problem. Do the DVD burning options from Roxio work as well?

What is your recommendation for a simple burning software package for making data backup CDs and DVDs and an occassional audio CD? Based on my experience I'd prefer something along the lines of Easy DVD Creator 5.

I use Nero for all my CD and data DVD needs. I've had it save many of my CDs due to bad CD drives and personally thats all I'll use for making CD's(Although I do make them anymore..).

I thought Roxio 5 wasnt supported by XP. At least thats the error I got when I tried to install it recently.

    nmanyan ...........

I am new to this as you seem to be.

I downloaded the free Demo version of Nero, used it, liked it alot, but last week my 30 days was up.

So you can 'buy' free 30 days with the Nero demo and keep researching, I recommend that. This DVD burning software 'thing' seems to be all over the place, with a suite of multiple programs needed to complete the task(s).

Nero is the best CD/DVD burning software suite and it comes with some other nice tools. If you want to buy it you can try to find the new Nero 7 on sale at one of the B&M's with a rebate or you can grab the older Nero 6.6, which i prefer anyways, off eBay for only a few bucks.

I have a few Nero OEM disks that I have never used. You can have one for the cost of shipping.

    Thx guys!

Easy CD creator works with XP. But it has problems with XP SP2. Here's a workaround though if you didn't buy XP SP2. Install Windows XP or XP SP1. Then install Easy CD Creator with all updates. Then update to XP SP2. Easy CD Creator will work fully operational. But if you try to install Easy CD on a XP SP2 rig, it won't work.

I kinda don't need a burning SUITE. I just need to make data backups and occasional music CD. Seems like $100 for a suite is overkill.

Ive never used anything but easy cd creator and 1clickdvdcopy with dvd43, since I burn nothing but DL. Never had any issues with either with sp2

    WANTED: FREE DVD Burning softare.

OK, my Nero Demo has now expired.

I have 3 movies on my hard drive, (used DVD Shrink). (NOT ISO files)

There is 1 movie I would like to burn to a blank DVD. (Dam, I did not pay attention to the Nero 30 days, I only used it twice to edit movies.)

I have done some research on all the burning 'tools/software', and can NOT find any free DVD burning software !!??!! JUST NERO's Trial.

So out of one dozen 'free' DVD software programs, only NERO burns ?!!
(I know ImgBurn is free, but for many reasons I don't want ISO files)

-I have checked all the 'DVD forums--

    Thanks

Hope this isn't OT. Is there any software that will let you burn a DVD that will play on a regular DVD player hooked up to a TV? Sorry for the noob question, but so far I can't seem to create a DVD on my computer that will play on my home DVD player with Nero or Roxio preloaded on my notebook. The disc isn't recognized.

You will have to encode/convert the video you want to burn to DVD compatible files (VOB)

You can use this freeware to do that: http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html

As for a free CD/DVD burning software, CDBurnerXP Pro is one of the best (NO video-DVD support): http://www.cdburnerxp.se/
If only burning images then ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/

If you are willing to pay a bit, Nero 6.6 (I find it better than version 7). I still use an Express OEM Nero 6.6 that came with a burner I bought

ImgBurn supports building images within the program now. For freeware burning I use ImgBurn for anything data and Burrrn for audio. I have no need for commercial tools anymore.
