Here are two novabench scores of my computer: 1) one is three days ago. 2) the other is today.

My CPU speed seems to have decreased significantly. Although, I can't tell the difference just surfing the internet or writing word docs. I am afraid the CPU speed will affect me when I start to play some games.
Anyone have any suggestions how to restore CPU speed or increase speed back to how it was previously? Maybe even make it faster?
-
I should also mention that the only two things that I can think of that changed my score is that I downloaded a lot of new freeware software like Malwarebytes, Everest, Easues, Gamebooster, Filezilla, etc...
And second I had to do a system restore after messing around with my user profile. I accidentally changed a setting which did not recognize my password. Thus, when I restarted I could not login. I went into my boot settings and did a system restore. I think that is where the problem is coming from. But I have no idea why it affected my CPU speed. Any suggestions would be such a big help! -
1. You worry too much.
2. Don't play around with settings you know nothing about.
3. You are basing your possible slowdown by running a benchmark which is an extremely specific task and is very narrow when it comes to reflecting real world performance; unless of course you are talking about a database server.
With all that said, let's start somewhere. What exactly did you change that made you unable to login? I would also not recommend "Gamebooster" as it merely disables services, hence their associated processes, which Windows will do on its own when necessary. -
Thanks Metril for inquiring.
Well, in most cases, I would not worry too much about this CPU speed loss. However, its a brand new computer for my dad and I don't want it to be a "lemon" so to speak. I can still return it in the next 3 days if it does not work for a full refund.
Second, I was not trying to play around with settings that I did not know nothing about. I was simply trying to login automatically to windows without putting in a password. So that my dad can simply press power and login.
I was using Tuneup Utilities 2011 and customizing window settings. Under this tab, I was changing the user logon. Under user logon was a tab for automatic logon. I thought I could add my user name and password there so I could logon automatically. However, I did not completely fill out the user, password, and domain. So when I restarted the computer, I was unable to log in with my settings. Thus, I had to go to the bios and boot menu to do a system restore. I tried using my windows password recovery USB first, but that was unable to work either. So system restore was my last choice other than doing a fresh install.
So ya, I'm just perplexed why my CPU speed fell almost 250 points. I can understand a fluctuation of 50 points. But 250? What's going on?
P.S. I uninstalled gamebooster thank for your advice. -
250 points of what? Precisely.
This is the problem with 'benchmarks'. -
I just want to know why my benchmark changed so dramatically. I don't really care how you define "benchmark". Whether I use Novabench, Passmark, or CPU-z, or whatever, I just want to know how to restore my CPU speed which dropped significantly in my opinion.
-
lol people worry to much over benchmarks
in real world use you would never notice that small drop -
Since it's nearly brand new, just save any of your data and do a full restore (then don't mess with it). If you plan on returning it anyway a full restore shouldn't matter.
-
So other than doing a full restore...There is no other way to diagnose and fix this laptop? I was thinking I could adjust the intel CPU settings somehow. Thanks for the input. Any other advice to boost CPU or restore speed would be great!
-
Without knowing exactly what you screwed around with, that's probably the best you can do.
-
Is there something that I can do to give you a view of my current CPU settings? I have Everest...Or I could download CPU-z if that would help. I would really like to fix it without doing a fresh install. I would have to reinstall all the software...
-
I think I will go ahead and do a clean install.
I've not done one on Windows 7 before, do you have any ideas what is the best way to do a clean install and backup?
I did download Easues Todo backup....Is there anyway to save all my data and installed programs?
I really don't want to have to reinstall everything
