I was converting using dixv plus player from mdk to windows video something I think .and I got an i7 720QM and a gtx 260m. Its a full HD file. Like 7.56 GB to 10GB after conversion. It has taken like 12 hours to complete which is ridiculous. It uses like 75% cpu on average and I was wondering if there was a converter that was free that had CUDA support so it doesnt take half a day. I would be more precise with what I converted to but I am at work and I cant remember.

Try xilisoft video convertor ultimate version 6.xxx
Video Converter: Convert video, AVI MPEG WMV MP4 MKV video converter
it uses CUDA.
Enjoy high conversion speed with Xilisoft Video Converter
hope it helps -
that looks great but is their a free one? i don't want to spend 55 bucks ^^
-
ey do ve trial version available, just give a try.
-
You can try Handbrakes, but there are not a lot of good free video converters.
-
thx guys i'll give that a try. but converting form mdk to WMV or whatever is the windows one with audio as wav too like 10-12 hours on my i7 720QM it was 1080p went from 7.56gig to 10gig. Does it really take that long?
side note i was using the WMV becuase my friend said mdk doesnt work on his PS3. Do you know of any better formats that work on the PS3 -

thx for the info + rep for all but is that really how long it takes to convert a video with an i7?
EDIT:xilisoft video trial only supports like 2 codecs and 320x240 :/
is there any other software -
bump ^^ any suggestion
EDIT: all the ones i have looked around on google leave watermarks or havee low quality :/ -

although i dont convert files that size, from my experience with video editing id say thats just about the right time.
wmv is a very compressed format and your converting from another another compressed format, thats probably movie length at 1080p and most probably with HD audio.
another converter that supports cuda is badaboom. just note that there are probably no cuda enabled converters for free and iirc cuda converters lead to a slight loss in video quality.
another thing you can do is tweak settings like lower bitrate, switch to 720 (and high bitrate), downgrade audio, etc.
i know viscious has a thread on best settings for maintaining video quality and minimizing file sizes. -
if i cant get a free converter with CUDA than i'll just do one at a time at night. Just sucks becuase this stuff could take like an hour or 2 with CUDA lol
EDIT: when i am on leave i'll search that database to see if i can find a free CUDA one. thx guys. I'll report back what i find in a few days. -
cyberlink mediaespresso 6 is only 35usd and i heard its quite good. might be worth the money for you.
there is also a 30-day trial version which give you full functionality, iirc -
wait i think this is afree cuda video converter

does your friend have his/her computer and ps3 on the same network?
if so just make him/her download ps3 media server and he/she can stream it over to the ps3.
i personally use badaboom (got it for $10) it converted a 720p bout hr and a half home video to a 720p ps3 compatible one in about 40 mins this is with 6ch audio also at highest quality settings
while we are on the subject why do you have you video files in a mdf image?
or did you mean mkv?
if i remember correctly mdf is media descriptor format which is a disc image. mkv is a video and audio container format which typically with newer files and such contains video codec of h.264 and one of various audio codec some of which are dts, ac3 and mp3. there are many different variations the mkv could contain since its just that a media container. i think mkv stood for Matryoshka or something similar since all i can remember is the russian word.
EDIT: my eyes must be playin tricks on me i read mdf not mdk lol my bad disregard what i said about mdf -
they are all Blu-Ray rips in 1080p in mkv format. Btw it happens with the eyes lol.
The reason why i am converting them for my roomate is becuase his ps3 cant play mdk format. also what is the best format that works for ps3? does divx work? Also what is this ps3 media player or whatever you talk about? Also How cna i get it to the ps3. It doesnt real my external hardrive is it easy to network it? -

ps3 media server is a java program that runs on your computer. its very easy to use all you do is install it set which folder on the computer you want it to share with the ps3 and thats it. turn the ps3 on and youll see ps3 media server popup on it.
as long as the computer that your running the ps3 media server on can play the movie then it will stream over to the ps3 as long as the ps3 is on the same network as that computer (plugged in to the same router, hub, etc.) you can do it over wifi but youll have to change a setting or two in the media server configuration but i would recommend having it wired (ps3 and computer) especially for hd content since the ps3 wireless g speeds cannot keep smooth playback without noticeable loss in video quality.
if the computer cannot play the video because of codec problems usually a quick fix would be to install something like cccp (combined community codec pack... originally designed for anime playback but it contains most if not all most used codecs today in a easy install package)
also yes the ps3 can play divx. -
awesome i am always tired of running round tring to find codecs...that codec pack is exactly what i have been looking for too ^^ hx guys i'll report back in a week or so when done testing.
-
well i finally tried media coder...its in Japanese or some Asian language....so thats useless. and flacuda is a command line that doesnt work with windows 7 so out of all the free where none support CUDA or work for windows 7 or is in english :/
Any other ideas guys :/ -

MediaCoder • View topic - English version?
That should help you change it in english -
thx i'll check it out...thats for the media coder NT with cuda right?
EDIT:can't check it right now. Government computers block that site. -
awesome that forum post was right its in english!!! thx man!!!!
EDIT....stupid...this thing only allows 720p and limited settings. its a user friendly nurfed program. Its meant only for portable devices. I cant do 1080p :/ oh well 720P shall work i guess. I guess i'll just use both apps and use this for DVDs and use the super duper slow method for 1080p...kinda backwwards lol but whatever -
I want to know whiat is MDK? MDK is MKV?
