    I have seen this around here before but for the life of me I can't remember the name of what it is. You can add a calendar and a bunch of other gadget like things on your desktop. Its not like the default windows gadgets or anything like that.

    I wish I had a screen shot of it, but I can't find anything like that.

    look for anything than can populate and maintain an active desktop background.

    I'm gonna look at Rainlendar that might be it I remember it being very minimalistic if that helps.

    Edit: Its not rainlender, it was more of a gadget program than I calendar program I am realizing.

    Rainmeter seems close but I remember being able to drag and drop the components I wanted, with this, unless I am not doing it right you can only load different skins.
