I have accumulated a TON of wallpapers over the years. Zillions. I have regrettably changed my filling practices over the years as well and I'm starting to realize I have a real mess of wallpapers scattered over my storage drives.
My question is is there a program, resource, or other method to scan through my collections and some how compare them and tell me if I have duplicate pictures. In my mind I see this as being possible, all of the pixels the make up the picture are of certain values and even if the resolutions are different there must be a way to make a very educated guess that picture X and Y are probably the same.
Maybe, maybe not. Instead of me doing it manually (and believe me it's taking a long time to do this) any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Picasa may have a feature that would suit your needs.

If not, I found the following program on Google but cannot verify it's validity, therefore download and use at your own risk.

Another application that states that it does more or less what you say you need to do is Duplicate Image Finder by MindGems. It is not freeware, however; the trial version will find duplicates for you, but will not allow you to use the app's deletion methods to actually cull the duplicate images (of course, if you don't mind keeping a list of duplicates and then deleting them manually, then the free trial version might work for you).
There are also some freeware duplicate image finders listed in this makeuseof.com article: 5 Ways to Find Duplicate Image Files on Windows PC.
Keep in mind, I've not used any of the foregoing apps, so I cannot vouch for any of them. -
Try VisiPics.

I've been using a program called "duplicate cleaner". It can search your hard drive and find duplicate files of any type. In fact if you let it compare files by CRC instead of by name, it can find files that have different names but identical content. I have found that I've downloaded photos from websites, and later I come across the same photo and download it under a different name. This program will find that these 2 are duplicates.
If you get a program like this, you can restrict it to search only .jpg files for instance. Other times you can let it search general files for cleaning up your hard drive. -
There is a software program called Photology that may be just what your looking for. I have not used it myself, just read about it.

+1 for Dupdetector. It finds duplicate images that are differnet sizes or cropped slightly. You can adjust the "percentage" of match. It works REALLY well.
