I've recently upgraded my Aspire 5536G to Windows 8.

It originally came with Vista on a hidden drive, which I then upgraded using the Acer offer to Windows 7.

A friend of mine has a Toshiba that is gathering dust and could do with an OS. I'd happily put Linux on it but she intends to let her daughter have it.

Am I legally/physically able to re-install the upgrade kit I used on my Acer onto this Toshiba, or will it be a one time install disk/Acer specific OEM?

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Generally you get a single user license for upgrades. The only way to get a multi-user license - sometimes known as volume licensing - is to purchase a key that can be activated on more than one machine, or to get something that is more of an enterprise solution; a sort of "corporate key" for many systems.

I'm not sure what you got from Acer, but I'm almost positive you won't be able to use what they gave you on another laptop, let alone one that is not an Acer, as it's very unlikely they gave you a multi-user upgrade offer.
