I have a bunch of security update flies for Windows XP & internet explorer. Do I want to/can I remove these files from my computer?

    Welcome to the forum!

Can I ask why you want/need to remove them? Are you out of space in your hard drive, or do you just want to clean it up?

My advice is to leave them be. Most "updates" are dependent on the previous ones. If you delete the wrong ones, you could hose your system. There are much better ways to keep your system clean. Run your "Disk Cleanup" from the control panel.

Cheers, from another cheesehead! Go Pack!

good points Dragnoak, Since they are security updates I would not remove them if you still intend to use the computer connected to the internet. If you just use it "offline" you may be ok assuming you know the dependencies mentioned above. There are many better/safer ways to free up space if that is the goal as Dragnoak alluded to.

Is these files located in the software distribution folders is that what your referring to? I would say leave them as well unless you know what your doing as they don't take up much space. I deleted mine but I make backup images of my drive just incase. That is what I do in my case but if you look how much spaces it takes up it will be about 100-200 Megabytes only that isn't alot in a big hard drive. So unless your a DIY person just leave it be.
