Yes you can, but not recommended. Great Visual but disappointing performance gains(or issit lost) when compared to XP.

can u back this "not recommended" (ur statement) up? personal experience? using same machine?

Juz_Follow_ATI system is more than enough to run vista with no issue, comparing to my litlle itty bitty emachines (and it runs vista like a freight train)

    cheers ...

Based on TomsHardware testing if Juz is looking to upgrade to Vista you will lose some performance on gaming, application time, ect. as compared to XP - That doesnt mean it wont work - Its just a tad slower - And yes, agreed that you CAN run Vista

    well, benchmark and reviews asides

i cannot duplicate the performance hit when running vista (other than games, which i expect until new gp hardware and drivers come out)

my little system is an AMD64/9600 with 64mb gp/1.5 gbram and 7200rpm hdd

. vista surfing > xp surfing - and this is being done with NO tweak!
. office apps (office2007 and open.org) see no difference under xp or vista - faster under vista as i see it
. many performance tweaks, done under xp , r not needed under vista
. many "XP" apps r running just fine under vista - the compatibilty list is growing more and more each day once users start playing with vista)

my only grudge against vista is $$$$$. and some DRM craps on some apps, other than that, up until now i would not bastardise vista just for the fun of it

    cheers ...

Well the performance differences are so small I wouldn't doubt that it would be a "hit" - and I agree Vista shouldn't be bastardized - for users that do hard gaming I would stick to xp for now - other than that I am pushing Vista as well

Yep, this is my grudge for it oso, that's y i m bastardising vista so no one would buy it and force microsoft to lower down the price... But I'm Joking...

The price of Vista of a total let down, over price i might say. Last time even Windows XP Pro just costed 199, the supposing EXTRA in ULTIMATE isnt worth the 100. Oh well, i m done with this, the only reason i ll be getting Vista is i buy a new computer or laptop that comes install with it or that they dun sell XP anymore. :D

If I can run Vista with no problems, then you can :)

Just cross your fingers on any driver issues.

On a laptop, at least from what I've been reading. I don't think you'll see any significant difference. In fact, it's likely that your going to run even slower. I just finished reading up on AnandTech's review of Vista, and they say that 1 Gig is the bare minimum to run Vista, with Vista easily consuming half of those resources for the system alone.

Vista only saw significant gains when running with 3 Gigs of memory, it was actually quite remarkable. The guys at AnandTech even say that small apps like Outlook, Winamp, WMP and MSN, boot up as if they were never even closed at all. Booting and shutting down multiple apps took only seconds. Bare in mind, these significant changes only came around when 3 Gigs of memory was installed.

From the review, I'm less likely to upgrade to Vista, at least until I can get 3 Gigs on a laptop, which I currently can't in my system. I'd also want to have at least 256 Megs of dedicated Graphics Memory. Gaming is another main problem on Vista, as it has yet been able to take advantage of the new technology. You'll have to wait for new Vista Drivers for your Graphics card.

I currently use a Fujitsu Lifebook N6010, with 2 Gigs of Memory running XP Pro, and I'm really itching to buy Vista and run it. But after the article, it's now higly unlikely. At least until I can get my hands on an Asus A8JS!!

3 Gigs? That the first time I heard that. But ofcourse the more Gigs the merrier when applied to any thing.

Vista runs MUCH MORE quickly on my 2GB Acer. I highly recommend Vista for anyone with 2Gigs or more. I even have aero working with no problem on my crappy Graphics card.

My RAM stays around 500-600MB (mostly 550) on regular use. Meaning Browsing, Music apps, Widgets, Aero, and mulitple background apps like
    E-mail client, antivirus, etc: etc:

But I would still wait to get the Asus A8JS :)
