Hi guys, I've ordered an Alienware from the Dell Outlet and it will come with Windows 7, but I actually prefer windows 8. Would it be possible to swap my key with another persons windows 8 key? I know the windows 8 key was stored in the UEFI on my last XPS 13 ultrabook but is this always the case? Are there any other ways to achieve a swap?
I'm in the UK btw.

Keys are stuck with their computer as in your case your AW key is for alien-ware OEM and can't move to another computer. And W8 since you don't own it you have to buy it and install it or upgrade install to get to W8. And no we don't condone swapping as that registration is registered to that person and doing would blacklist their registering and prevent them from updating should they want to. And most would not give up W7 since W8 isn't what they want either so unless they upgrade to W8 they most likely will keep their W7 as backup just in-case. -
Thanks for the reply, that's fair enough I wasn't sure if it was frowned upon. I actually like windows 8, I sold my W8 XPS13 and would have preferred it on the AW but obviously the outlet laptops only have their specified OS.

OEM limits you and once users register you can't transfer the COA as that would be a violation of the M$ agreements we agreed to even though we might not read all the agreements when we bought the laptop or software O/S. You AW might have a upgrade clause in it but if not you limited to what they offer especially in drivers and some drivers may be O/S specific as well so that will limit what O/S you can load beyond factory install. But if it can Win7 then you will have to outright buy W8 and see if there are drivers for W8 on AW for that model to use with otherwise if not I would recommend stick with W7 or buy another laptop that has W8 as the primary O/S to use. Those are you two options at this point in time. -
Third option could be to buy a W8 upgrade
As with any legal document, you should read through the terms of an agreement such as a Windows EULA before agreeing (never a good idea to sign your name blindly, so to speak
).

Thanks for ideas and advice, I think I'll just stick with W7 until a good upgrade offer pops along.
Can I swap my W7 key for someone elses W8 key?
