For some very unfortunate reason, I had to get a Microsoft account. Is there a way I can check my either @hotmail or @live messages as IMAP in Thunderbird. I want to be able to send and receive emails.

Thank you. I had no idea about this extension!

Does it have to be IMAP? Because since March, MS gave free POP3 service for every Hotmail account and you can set it up with pretty much any client without additional extension.

Thank you Stewie. I had to configure a POP account manually 'cause the web didn't work quite well. I would've preferred IMAP but it doesn't seem to be an option.

No problem. If you absolutely need IMAP with Hotmail, it's possible using a service called IzyMail, but it's not free though.

You can give the free account a try, it can still send and receive, except the message period is only up to 14 days.

Nah, thanks anyway. I have to use it with one of my clients only because for some reason, her sever blocks all my emails except @live.com. Hotmail sucks anyway.

You could always forward your Hotmail and migrate towards Gmail and use IMAP with Thunderbird.

Or, use and email client from which you can select what account you want to send an email with. That way you can send and receive emails from the live.com address in the same place as all your other email.
Can I use IMAP with hotmail?
