Short answer: No, unless you buy a vista anytime upgrade cd and use it to upgrade to home premium.

Long answer: No, and where the heck did you find Vista Home Basic? I've spent the last month or so researching notebooks and I don't remember seeing one that didn't come with at least home premium, other than the customizable ones like hp and Sager.

Really basic models from Dell tend to have the option for Vista Home Basic.

I was able to install a Vista Home Premium on a Dell laptop that came with Vista Home Basic, though on Dells, they do not ask you for a serial if it's the original OS as the key is stored somewhere in the BIOS. Though I'm sure that was against my EULA and I didn't keep it that way - I've since "upgraded" to XP Professional Retail.

That's like saying "if you steal a copy of Vista Home Premium from Best Buy then yes".

    And paying for software from M$ isn't ... ?
Besides, there will always be people who will pirate Windows, unless M$ decides to charge their costumers appropriately.

Can you explain how exactly paying for software that a team of developers worked on for years and years for is unethical?

Microsoft can dress in a Jesus costume and there will still be a-hole pirates who have stupid justifications for their actions. Instead, if you meant "customers", then what would be a fair price? $100? $10? You really think that it's up to you to decide how much you want to pay for something? If you don't think it's worth it, don't buy it. Don't give a dumbass excuse saying that you don't believe the price is fair so that you feel that it's your right to steal it. That's absolute bull****.

The guy didn't pirate! stop being a JERK!

He was simply asking out of curiosity! He did not say he did it nor is he trying to pirate! Why do you jump into conclutions immediately and take it personally whensomeone is talking about piracy as if he was stealing money from your pocket! RELAX

No, you can't. I have heard from utlimate 32 to ultimate 64 you could use the same code, but not from a different version to another.

No, you only use the serial code for the version you purchased.
