I am about to begin dual boot procedures (pre-installed Vista + XP) which I have learned from reading many threads in this forum as well as others. As my new HP Pavillion dv9700 notebook arrived with no DVDs, I used their program to make recovery DVDs, but I’m not certain if I can use these for my dual boot process. I have a clean XP SP2 disc, and I have downloaded VistaBootPro so, aside from my ignorance with regard to this recovery disc question, I believe I’m ready to dive in.

Also, can anyone explain the difference between VistaBootPro PRIMARY & VistaBootPro MIRROR with advice about which to use?

You don't need to reinstall Vista, just shrink the partition, install XP, then put in a Vista disc and do fixmbr. Then change mbr entries with easyBCD

The recovery disc doesn't give you options on load. In effect, they're just an image of factory settings.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to the download servers with PRIMARY and MIRROR. If so, please do not attempt to set up a dual boot system, or at least find a real-live person to help you.
