Hi all....and yes Ive been away for awhile but I am considering an experiment which would give me a very powerful ultra portable...

Can I buy the present mini-9 and trade off its hd with my present Samsung RBX Series6 64Gb ssd and then load a 64 bit Vista system onto it??? Next, are ram chips in these the same size and if so...how high could we go???

If anyone can suggest a similar priced ultra portable that can be done similar with please jump in on this...

Open to any suggestions and lets try and stay on point leaving the hugs/kisses and hate mail to later k?? eheheh

My God yr all mods now anyway right??

NOTE TO MODS: I put this here and NOT in hardware as getting the software to work is the most important part, especially with Vista 64bit...

The Atom CPU in the Mini 9 can't run 64-bit code. Only some of the desktop Atom CPUs can.

    1. The Mini 9 takes a special type of ssd, the best are found here.

    2. The Mini 9 can only handle up to 2GB of ram, DDR2-800 works.

    3. With any ssd at least 16GB in size, Vista would run.

The N atom chips cannot run x64, the z chips can. the Dell Inspiron 10 can run it but it doesn't have upgradable ram. It does use standard 2.5" SATA drive however.

No, only desktop Atom's are 64-bit, Z series are not.

So now we have come a bit... The mini 10 cannot run 64 bit??? or can it. It can accept the standard 2.5ssd which is a start I guess but well, as many can attest here I am 64bit through and through...

I would almost complement many of us here at NBR as being a very large piece of the 64bit puzzle with Dell specifically from when we were tackling things here to my subsequent conversations with their 64 bit team in tackling several issues.

Hmm...now how can we get 64 bit into any mini...is it possible in any way shape or form??

Oh and....just a bit of a side pride note...my system still, after all this time...starts complete in the 24-25 second mark thanks to the ssd, 64bit and all of the twaeking that was done...

what gain do you imagine from going 64bit. it's not like there is some magic in it. <=4gb it doesn't really make a difference.

    Dave....

I won't get sucked into the question your proposing yet again...it got old long ago and the proof and response to your question is all over the site.

Thanks for the answers regarding the Mini 10 though to others.

My mistake. It has VT, not x64 compatibility.
