If so, does it give it a drive number and emulate an optical drive?

I don't recall any version of Windows 7 being able to mount ISO's, but it can burn them at least, I know that doesn't help though
Windows 8 supposedly supports native ISO mounting. -
I could have swore that Windows 7 Pro had that ability. Can anyone else chime in?

No I too don't think you may be able to mount ISOs on W7 (any version) without any third party software.
Maybe you had confused W7 with W8? W8 supports ISO mounting. -
Can you recommend any third party utilities than?

W7 supports ISO burning. W8 supports ISO mounting.
Best software I've used so far is Daemon Tools. -
And they're paid versions, unfortunately. I was looking for some freeware (decent) alternative if possible.

Get Daemon Tools Lite, it's free.

Thanks! I'll give that a try soon.

I've used Virtual Clonedrive, it's free and simple.

To make and burn those disc images I use IMGBurn.

Two free tools I have basically in all my computers now. -
Virtual clonedrive works great, and you can even disable autostart, when you double click an ISO, it gets mounted anyway.
(Yeah, I hate having programs in the taskbar that makes no difference whatsoever.)
I think it's based on Daemon tools. -

I think I will try that Virtual Clonedrive too, 'cuz newer DT Lite kinda suck for me. I still use the 4.35 version.

VCD here. I use it because I store my DVDs as ISO files.

PowerISO is a good one if you need to mount images.
Can Windows 7 Professional mount iso files?
