As the subject asks: Can Windows Home Server do full disk backups of the PC's on the network? Or does it just back up certain files and folders like with Windows Backup (on Home Premium).

Sweet! I'm so excited now. Just have about $100 of components to buy before I build my WHS machine.

I've been using WHS almost as long as it has been available. It does a great job of centralizing content for all users, backing up clients, streaming multimedia, and being accessible over the 'net. You can even install Orb as a service and stream content to your Wii, among other devices.

Here's a great example of someone utilizing WHS:

Mac users can take advantage of the WHS, too, albeit without having the client software installed. The WHS can be mapped and used for Time Machine backups. All in all, I think WHS is one of the most underrated Microsoft products available.

Hey htwingnut - I just finished building my new WHS, using an Atom mini-itx motherboard. If your motherboard uses AHCI, you might want to take a look at a post I made here. Unless you edit the txtsetup.oem file, the AHCI SATA driver install will always fail because Server 2003 looks for an A drive - and the USB floppy does not show up that way. Anyway, I found the info to get the floppy working. Thought this might help you out.

Thanks. I got my WHS running, but I realize that my little Shuttle just isn't going to cut it for hard drive space, speed, cooling, and USB ports are still running flaky like they always were.

I ended up buying some components so that it would work in an SG01 Sugo SFF case that can house 4 hard drives (if you remove optical), and 5 total if you rig a bracket inside.

No issues installing, although I know what you mean about AHCI. I can't boot from my SATA Shuttle SG33G5 DVD drive. It's not USB, but maybe similar issue.

I love it and you know it. Have you heard about the powerpack3, which will be around when win7 is around? much integration with 7 is planned.

check my sig for my home server pics :)

yes, it's the most underrated technology product from microsoft. that and the .net framework are both awesome, and for me, the main reason to stay and not even think about switching to something else.

I'm testing PP3 right now - no more backup and antivirus messages, plus the WMC plugin works, too.

but i like integration :) so that sounds nice :)

can you test the netbook support? a.k.a. remote access to smaller resolutions than the window? :)
