I deleted MS works and can't seem to get it back unless I do a full re-install with the Sony provided backup disc.
I'm pretty sure I can do a repair somehow, but I remember hearing about a free office software that is better than MS works. Anyone know what its called? Link?
O office or something like that..

Or you can try Abiword from here: http://www.filehippo.com/software/office/
-
Open Office is fairly good for most needs. Probably better than Works.

Open office is good, but doesn't stand up in the business world, shell out the money and get Office 07
-
Thanks. OpenOffice works fine!
-
As mentioned, OpenOffice is good.
If you're a student, you can get Office 2007 Ultimate for $60: http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx -
OpenOffice has its...quirks, but it's certainly more useful than MS Works.
-
OpenOffice 3 is the best free suite.
-
GoogleApps or ZohoApps

-
have you even tried OpenOffice 3? -

What’s most important?
• Performance
• Reliability
• Support
• Cost
(First of all, in business, cost should never be a hindrance)
If they were the same price, which one would you buy? in the business world Microsoft holds the majority of the market share, therefor the standard is already set.
Lets say you were going to add 20 new PCs to your business, adding to the 40 that are already part of your business. Lets say the 40 you have are Dells. Now, you can get 12 HPs at a great price, and another 8 from Gateway at a special price, or you could buy 20 more Dells, and pay a few hundred dollars more... which are you going to do?
As I said, In the business world, Open source software doesn't thrive as much as it could, and that is because it only holds a small value of the market share. For home use open source software is great. -
IMO, comparing software to hardware is comparing apples to oranges.
Just because MS holds the of market share doesn't necessarily mean it's better. It means it has better marketing.
You also told the OP to shell out the money, but later say OO is good for home.

If you don't want to buy MS Office, Open Office is a great free alternative.
But for me, I'd rather have MS Office (currently have 2003 Professional). -
Would probably agree, we use Office 2003 at work, but I use Open Office and 2003 at home.
So I would recommend trying open office on one machine - any problems then fork out cash for 2003 or 2007.
But Office reliability? Open Office DOES crash but I would say I have more crashes on Office. (Then again I run open office under Ubuntu) -
I really don't understand why you two are arguing about this the op said open office is fine so problem solved.

both of you > enough!!
IMHO, I think both Office and Open Office are equally good. I have used both, and I didn't find any major difference, in terms of function and productivity. Both serve me well! -
I got OpenOffice, it has 11 application in the suite, if I bought a similar suite from M/S it would have to cost around $400. Now there's no way it's as good as M/S, but for free, it's 3 times better! IMO

you accidentally the whole thing?
another vote for open office here, I recommend it to heaps of people who can't afford MS office, or can't stand 2007's new tab design. -
OP has found his answer and this thread is deteriorating into a flamewar(already personal insults) so its now closed.
Both OpenOffice and Microsoft's office applications have their merits. Its up to user to determine what programs suits their needs best and whether they are willing to pay for it.
Can anyone recommend a free office software? I accidently removed MS Works.
