    Hi!

My dad recently got an Acer Aspire 3000. I'ts got a load CPU fan that kicks in at the very low temp of 36 C. Yes, very annoying.

I have tried manipulating the fan, but the computer doesn't give an rpm signal. I have tried undervolting but the computer wont tell me what voltage. When I open BIOS I can't change a thing.

Can a BIOS flash change this little problem?

A BIOS flash will only help if there is an updated version avaliable. Normally, a BIOS update fixes small hardware issues, and I know in many notebooks, it can improve the fan control.

Hey luck glad to see you! :D

In order to update your BIOS - go to your notebook manufacturer's website, and look at the section where they have the drivers/software avaliable to download for your model. The BIOS should be in there. ;)

    Thank you, always helpful :)

I found what you told me but sadly the BIOS in the notebook is the latest version so no use in changing I guess.

Looks like my last option is to make/buy that cooling pad... unless...

How hard do you think it is to open the notebook and reapply the coolingpaste?

Well, it would just be a matter of accessing the CPU - maybe there is an explanation in the manual.

Don't forget that thermal paste is very expensive, especially artic silver.

The cooling pad will do more for you than the thermal compound, and will be more cost-efficent as well. Vantec makes great cooling pad - be sure to get an aluminum one, they absorb heat the best.
