I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6Ghz processor, T5470 and 2gb or RAM. I'm currently using Windows Vista Business 32-bit, which is what came with the laptop, but would really like to switch back to XP or to maybe dual-run both operating systems at the same time. Would it be possible for me to install XP 64 bit on this?

    Thanks :)

Go to dell.com, support section, Drivers, select by model, Vostro 1500, and see what OSes appear in the drop-down menu. Those are the ones Dell has drivers for. You may be able to use other OSes too... but in that case, you'd be on your own in terms of finding drivers.

Swarmer, thanks for your reply. I did as you said and see Vista 32-bit and XP, but 32-bit vs 64-bit isn't specified for the XP

Well then most likely you will be short several drivers if you install XP64.

I see that you want to possibly go back to XP, but may I ask why it has to be the 64bit version? Is there any reason why you won't be fully satisfied with the plain XP32?

Make sure you closely examine all of the programs/devices that you are running to ensure they will play nicely with 64 bit. When upgraded to 64 bit, I found that only one device I had (usb-db9 adapter) did not have any 64 bit drivers, nor was I able to find a substitute a different driver, so I had to revert to using my com port again.

I have found that my Latitude is far more stable and performs slightly better with 64bit.
