Ok, so I'm at the hospital using wireless...

My wife's laptop runnin Home Premium x64 connects to internet and all webpages just fine.

However, my rig will ONLY load a google-based website...trippy wierd. I was at home and everything works just fine there. Also, Digsby connects to google talk, & Thunderbird gets my IMAP Gmail, but not my webmail Hotmail or Yahoo. This is consistent w/ Firefox, IE, Opera, & Chrome.

    ANY clues?????????

I have tried flushing my DNS cache ("ipconfig /flushdns) & it didn't solve any problems.

Sounds like a proxy issue, but it doesn't make sense that hers loads everything else fine. Did she have to put in a hotspot username or anything?

Wow. I'm stumped then. Can you ping other sites, such as yahoo.com? If so, put the returned IP addy in the browser box and see what happens. It may be a DNS thing.

    Possibly.

I tried pinging yahoo and google, and I get "time outs" and "Reply from xxx.xxx.xx.xxx: Destination net unreachable" from BOTH machines. Both do show an IP address when I type ping google.com or yahoo.com.

Ok, DNS is working, but the router is blocking actual traffic. Last thing I can think of: Are you running a software firewall? This could be conflicting with the hospitals hardware firewall. If so, try turning it off. Other than that, I don't know what else to have you try. Its probably something simple we are just overlooking.

I'm having this problem now. I have found instances of this happening to people back 5 years ago, but I've never seen the problem resolved. My laptop isn't worth much to me until I can find a fix.

I have found so many people reporting this problem. And there seems to be no common denominator among them. No one has been able to pin it down to a router or OS or program or anything. Nothing anyone has reported trying has ever worked.

All I can view are Google sites (not cached). There are a few other sites I can access, but they never load all the way. Windows Live Messenger can't sign in. Its troubleshooter shows an exclamation mark at "Key ports." My Desktop Weather says I have no connection. No automatic updates can get through - Windows updates or virus definitions. Shows I have no connection, when I do! Gmail works fine. And I can work with Google Documents online. As long as it's Google, I can get there just fine.

I have two other computers on my home network, but they don't have this problem.

Please tell me someone found a solution to this. I don't know what to do.

Hah, I wish I knew what cured it...my son was born that day, maybe he brought the mojo.

Once I got home I didn't have any problems though. Try updating the firmware on your router maybe?
