    What is your laptops model number? If you happen to know already, what chipset does the laptop have?

    AMD doesn't make it as easy as Intel to find the floppy F6 driver. I'm having trouble isolating the specific one to use. However this is the best recommendation I can offer for how to proceed:

    First try disabling the native-SATA setting in the BIOS as described here.

    If this option is present in your BIOS, you will not need the driver to install XP. If this option isn't present, then I would recommend you download this download titled 'RAID Driver (4.1MB). It's in an executable, so extract it. You can do so with a program such as 7-zip, or just begin to run the exe and abort. If you do so, be sure you tell the installer to extract the files to a location you can easily find. (You will be prompted where to extract the files when running the executable.) Once extracted, you will see a folder named 'RAID' and 'RAID7xx'. Both appear to have the needed file types, you you will just need to try both separately to see which it is. (You want the contents of the previously mentioned folder on the floppy.)

    First try disabling native-SATA in the BIOS. That is the easiest solution, unless someone else chimes in about which of the two folders is appropriate.

    ok i am in the bios in part system configuration . i went down to boot options under that i see

    f10 and f12 delay
    cd-rom boot enabled
    floppy boot enabled
    internal network adapter boot disabled

    boot order

    do i disable the internal network adapter or leave it alone ?
    or
    do i go in to boot order?

    The option to be changed probably won't be in the boot options. I'm not familiar with your BIOS, but it would be in an area with a name similar to 'Configuration'. The particular item you're looking for would be something with a name similar to 'Native-SATA'.

    Try using both. The txtsetup.oem file is in the top level directory, and that may be needed. So the entire contents of each folder mentioned. Then when you select F6 during the install you should be able to choose between the x86 and 64-bit.

    Really? That's odd. For me the file is in the RAID7xx directory, but not the x86 or 64-bit folder.

    i am sorry thats what i meant.the raid7xx folder had the right driver now im gonna see what it tells me after it is done formateing i will edit this post when i get a little futher with it and let u know what it did before this it seemed like it was deleteing the driver during the formate and not keeping it

    update;
    this is what it has done

    1 formated entire d drive (i have dual drives)
    2 checks d drive
    3 comes up and says setup can not copy the file ahcix86.inf

    to retry press enter
    if you are installing froma cd,make sure the windows xp cd is in the cd-rom drive

    to skip this file press esc

    caution; if u skip this file,setup maynot complete and windows xp maynot work properly.

    to quit setup,press f3

    and at the bottom of screen it says;

    enter=retry esc skip file f3=quit

    any ideas gregory

    Well the fact that the drive is detected initially is good. The problem I assumed you were having is that the XP installer couldn't locate the SATA drive.

    However, this issue you're having, I'm unfamiliar with. The installation media isn't old and beat up by any chance?

    This user went to some extraordinary steps with his dv5 to get everything working, August of last year:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3761319&postcount=6

    You may be able to replicate some of what he did. Although his problem and laptop is a bit different than your own, so it may be ineffective.

    Unfortunately I'm fresh out of ideas.

    update;

    i have a bad oem xp pro cd. i contacted the person i bought the cd from and and i am being sent a new fresh copy at no charge. which is good i noticed something was wrong when i could not copy the files from the cd to another computer. i have sent it to the shop because by the time i shipped it and paid someone to do it for me,it's cheaper to have it done here.although the major upgrade tha is gonna be done will be done by someone i know on here. thanks for your help bud
