I'm looking to buy a new laptop, and plan on getting 4gigs of RAM. I'm not familiar with vista at all, I still have XP on the computer I am using. I know I need to get the 64bit version of vista. How do I do this? When picking out my laptop features it says stuff like vista home 32/64 bit and vista ultimate 32/64 bit. How do I choose the 64bit one to buy? Do I just have to install it and upgrade to 64bit?

how are u buying this laptop

I was looking at getting either a dell or a sager, so I would just customize it

From my recent shopping experience, if it says 32/64, it probably means it comes with 64 installed, but the license is good for 32, and it comes with 32 install materials. To be sure, just call the sales number for whatever company you order from.

alright that sounds easy enough. Also, what would most of you recommend? The home edition or ultimate edition

Home Premium is cheaper while offering pretty much everything you need. Ultimate has a lot of unnecessary features with a big jump in price.

awesome thank you very much

I think that if your computer comes with 32 and you want to upgrade to 64 ou have to do a clean install...

Your Windows Vista license will be compatible with the 64bit edition of Microsoft Windows Vista, but your machine will come pre-installed with 32bit Vista, and will not ship with the 64bit Vista installation disc.
In order to get 64bit Vista on your machine, you will have to order a free (excl shipping) 64bit Vista DVD from Microsoft ( http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/2057/ordermedia/default.mspx), and then re-install Vista using that medium. -
Can someone help with info on 64bit quick?
